How to speed up a video or make it slow motion

Open the free Video speed tool, add your video and choose the speed: 0.25×, 0.5× or 0.75× for slow motion, or 1.25× to 4× to speed it up. Choose what happens to the sound (keep the pitch, pitch shifted or no sound), press “Change speed” and download it.

    0.25×, 0.5× or 0.75× slow it down; 1.25×, 1.5×, 2×, 3× or 4× speed it up.

  4. Choose the sound

“Keep the pitch” changes speed without making the voice squeaky or deep; “Pitch shifted” sounds like a sped-up tape; “No sound” removes it.

TIPS

To get it right

Tip 1

Slow motion is smoother if you record at 60 frames per second: the tool does not invent frames, so a video recorded at 30 fps, at 0.25×, looks choppy.

Tip 2

For long tutorials or recipes, 1.5× or 2× with “Keep the pitch” stays easy to follow.

Tip 3

To play it backwards, use Reverse video.

Speed up or slow down a video: common questions

How long can the result be?

Up to 10 minutes. A 4-minute video at 0.25× would last 16, so it is not allowed: trim it first.

Can I speed up only one part?

The speed applies to the whole video. To change just one part, trim it, change its speed and join it with the rest using the Merge videos tool.

Does it lose quality?

It is saved again up to 1080p and at 30 frames per second, at high or medium quality, your choice. A video recorded at 60 fps ends up at 30.

Is it free?

Yes. The free tools in this guide run in your browser and add no watermark. Tools that create files come with 30 welcome uses on a free account, then cost 1 credit per use; tools that show the result on screen have no usage cap. You can try them before signing up; to download the result or keep using them we ask for a free account, with no subscription.
