Word and character counter: common questions
How are words counted?
Every group of letters or numbers counts as a word, including accents or apostrophes, while stray punctuation and spaces do not. Next to it you see the characters with and without spaces, the lines and the paragraphs.
Which limits are included?
X (280), Threads (500), Bluesky (300), Mastodon (500 default), Instagram (2,200 and bio 150), TikTok (4,000), YouTube (title 100 and description 5,000), LinkedIn (3,000 and headline 220), Facebook, Pinterest and guide lengths for Google.
Why does X count differently?
X counts each link as 23 characters and each emoji or Chinese, Japanese or Korean character as 2. Our count follows those rules; it may differ in very rare cases.
Are the limits official?
They are the ones each network publishes, checked in September 2026. Networks change them now and then; Google has no fixed limit, only a guide length so it is not cut off.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser as you type; the text is not sent to Cocuyo or any third party and is not stored. You can check it in your browser’s network tools: your file is not sent.
Is it really free?
Yes. You can try it before signing up; to keep using it, we ask for a free account, with no subscription. It uses no credits and does not count toward your 30 welcome uses: it has no usage cap.
