Password generator: common questions
Are they really random?
Yes. We use crypto.getRandomValues, the browser’s cryptographic generator, and an unbiased method to pick each character. Every password includes at least one character of each type you tick.
What does the strength in bits mean?
It estimates how many combinations would have to be tried: length times the base-2 logarithm of the number of possible characters. Under 40 bits is weak; over 80, very strong against brute-force attacks.
Do you store the passwords?
No. They are generated in your browser, not sent to any server and not stored: if you reload the page, they are gone. Keep them in a password manager.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser as you type; the text is not sent to Cocuyo or any third party and is not stored. You can check it in your browser’s network tools: your file is not sent.
Is it really free?
Yes. You can try it before signing up; to keep using it, we ask for a free account, with no subscription. It uses no credits and does not count toward your 30 welcome uses: it has no usage cap.
