TIPS

To get it right

Tip 1

A shorter video is the most effective way to make it smaller.

Tip 2

To send a long video uncompressed, WhatsApp lets you send it as a document.

Tip 3

Keep the original: every compression loses some detail.

Compress a video for WhatsApp: common questions

How much smaller will it get?

It depends on the video. A 4K or 1080p phone video usually shrinks a lot at 720p and medium quality.

Does it lose quality?

Some, but on a phone screen it is usually hard to see at medium or high quality.

Is my video uploaded?

No. It is compressed on your device. Saving video needs WebCodecs, found in recent browsers.

Is it free?

Yes. The free tools in this guide run in your browser and add no watermark. Tools that create files come with 30 welcome uses on a free account, then cost 1 credit per use; tools that show the result on screen have no usage cap. You can try them before signing up; to download the result or keep using them we ask for a free account, with no subscription.
