How to make a video vertical for TikTok

Open the free Change video aspect ratio tool and choose 9:16: the video stays whole over a blurred background or is cropped to fill the screen. If it is someone talking to camera, the Face-follow vertical video tool moves the crop with them.

TIPS

To get it right

Tip 1

Whole with background cuts nothing: useful for text or wide landscapes.

Tip 2

Cropped fills the screen: better when what matters is in the centre.

Tip 3

To create a new vertical clip from an idea, there is the Vertical video App (it uses credits).

Make a video vertical: common questions

What size does TikTok use?

Vertical 9:16, usually 1080 × 1920 pixels. The tool saves at 1080p or 720p.

Does the picture get cut?

Only if you choose to crop. In whole mode, the full video sits over a blurred background.

What are the limits?

Videos up to 300 MB and 10 minutes that your browser can play. Saving video needs WebCodecs, found in recent browsers.

Is it free?

Yes. The free tools in this guide run in your browser and add no watermark. Tools that create files come with 30 welcome uses on a free account, then cost 1 credit per use; tools that show the result on screen have no usage cap. You can try them before signing up; to download the result or keep using them we ask for a free account, with no subscription. The AI Apps it mentions do use credits to generate, and Free includes no credits.
