How to reduce an image file size

Open the free Compress image tool, add up to 10 photos and pick a quality (60–80% usually looks the same) or type a maximum size in KB. If it is still too big, reduce the width with Resize image. Your photos never leave your device.

STEP BY STEP

4 steps

  1. Open Compress image

It runs in your browser, with no uploads and no watermarks.

    Open Compress image

  2. Choose quality or size

By quality or by maximum size in KB: the tool finds the highest quality that fits.

  3. Lower the resolution if needed

A phone photo usually has more pixels than a website or email needs. Resize image makes it, say, 1600 px wide.

  4. Download

Download each photo or all of them in a ZIP; you see the size before and after.

TIPS

To get it right

Tip 1

For forms with a limit (say, 200 KB), use the maximum-size mode.

Tip 2

In automatic mode, PNG and WebP become WebP, which keeps transparency.

Tip 3

If the photo carries your GPS location, remove it with Remove EXIF metadata before posting.

Reduce image file size: common questions

How much smaller will it get?

It depends on the photo. A phone JPG usually drops below half its size at 70–80% quality. If it cannot be reduced, you get the original.

Will I notice the difference?

Between 60 and 80% quality it is barely visible on screen. Compare before downloading.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. They are processed inside your browser and not sent to any server.

Is it free?

Yes. The free tools in this guide run in your browser and add no watermark. Tools that create files come with 30 welcome uses on a free account, then cost 1 credit per use; tools that show the result on screen have no usage cap. You can try them before signing up; to download the result or keep using them we ask for a free account, with no subscription.
