STEP BY STEP

5 steps

  1. Take the photo

Straight on, in even light, with no shadows on the face and the camera at eye level. A plain background helps, though it is turned white later.

  2. Open the tool and pick the size

US passport and visa (2 × 2 in), EU 35 × 45 mm, Spain ID and passport (26 × 32 mm), Mexico infantil (25 × 30 mm) or any size in mm.

  3. Frame the face

Move and zoom the photo until the head fits the oval: hair on the upper line and chin on the lower one. Choose a white background.

  4. Choose the sheet and create

A4, Letter or 10 × 15 cm (4 × 6 in), how many copies and whether you want cut lines. Press “Create photo and sheet”.

  5. Print at actual size

Download the 300 dpi JPG photo and the sheet as PDF or JPG. Print at 100% (“actual size”, not “fit to page”) and cut.

TIPS

To get it right

Tip 1

No glasses, a neutral expression and mouth closed: that is what most documents ask for.

Tip 2

If an online application asks for a maximum file size in KB, shrink the JPG with Compress image.

Tip 3

Before printing, check the current requirements with the authority asking for the photo: they change and depend on each process.

Passport photo at home: common questions

What size is a US passport photo?

2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm), with the head between 1 and 1⅜ inches. The tool makes it 600 × 600 pixels at 300 dpi.

And for Spain or Mexico?

Spain’s ID card and passport size is 26 × 32 mm (307 × 378 pixels at 300 dpi). Mexico’s “infantil” size is 25 × 30 mm (295 × 354 pixels). For EU or Schengen visas, use 35 × 45 mm.

Will it be accepted?

That is up to the authority: each country and process sets its own requirements (size, background, glasses, expression) and changes them. The tool uses common sizes as a guide; check them before printing.
