Base64 for text: common questions
Does Base64 protect a secret?
No. It is reversible encoding, not encryption. Anyone with the string can decode it.
Does it accept Base64URL or arbitrary binary data?
This tool uses standard Base64 with + and /. Output must be valid UTF-8 text; arbitrary binary files need a different conversion.
Why are some inputs rejected?
The string needs canonical padding and valid UTF-8 bytes. Incorrect padding, nonzero pad bits and invalid text are rejected instead of silently repaired.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser as you type; the text is not sent to Cocuyo or any third party and is not stored. You can check it in your browser’s network tools: your file is not sent.
Is it really free?
Yes. You can try it before signing up; to keep using it, we ask for a free account, with no subscription. It uses no credits and does not count toward your 30 welcome uses: it has no usage cap.
