Tone generator: common questions
How high can I hear?
It depends on your ears and age: with the years it is normal to stop hearing above about 15,000 Hz. Do not raise the volume to look for a tone you cannot hear.
What is pink noise for?
It has the same energy in each octave, so it sounds balanced and is used to test speakers. White noise sounds brighter and brown noise deeper.
What is the sweep?
A tone that rises from one frequency to another, spending the same time on each octave. It helps find resonances, rattles or a speaker’s limit.
Is my audio uploaded to a server?
No. The tool runs inside your browser: audio files are read and processed on your device and are not sent to Cocuyo or to any third party. The MP3 encoder is served from our own site. You can check it in your browser’s network tools: your file is not sent.
Is it really free?
Yes. You can try it before signing up; to keep using it, we ask for a free account, with no subscription. It uses no credits and does not count toward your 30 welcome uses: it has no usage cap.
