Unix timestamp: common questions
What is a Unix timestamp?
The number of seconds since 1 January 1970 at 00:00 UTC. Many systems and languages use it in milliseconds.
How do I know if it is in seconds or milliseconds?
Today a timestamp in seconds has 10 digits and in milliseconds, 13. With “Detect”, a value of 12 digits or more is read as milliseconds.
Does it count leap seconds?
No. Unix time does not count leap seconds, just like computer clocks and JavaScript dates.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser as you type; the text is not sent to Cocuyo or any third party and is not stored. You can check it in your browser’s network tools: your file is not sent.
