Calorie calculator: common questions
Which equation does it use?
Mifflin-St Jeor (1990): 10 × weight in kg + 6.25 × height in cm − 5 × age, plus 5 for men or minus 161 for women. The result is multiplied by an activity factor from 1.2 to 1.9.
How much should I cut to lose weight?
The calculator shows moderate changes of 250 and 500 kcal a day. Below about 1,200 kcal (women) or 1,500 kcal (men), do it only under professional supervision.
Is it exact?
No. It is an average estimate and real needs vary from person to person. It does not apply to under-18s, pregnancy, breastfeeding or illness: ask a professional.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. The numbers, dates and names you type are calculated in your browser and are not sent to Cocuyo or to any third party.
Is it really free?
Yes. You can try it before signing up; to keep using it, we ask for a free account, with no subscription. It uses no credits and does not count toward your 30 welcome uses: it has no usage cap.
