Image to SVG: common questions
Which images work best?
Logos, icons, stamps, drawings and text with flat colours. A photo can be vectorized too, but it will look like a poster and the SVG will be large.
How many colours should I choose?
For a one- or two-colour logo plus its background, 4 is usually enough. If you see mixed areas, go up to 8 or 16. More colours means a larger SVG.
What does “Transparent background” do?
It finds the most common colour on the image border and removes the areas of that colour that touch the border. The inside of the drawing is left alone even if it has the same colour.
What does the vectorizing?
imagetracerjs, a public-domain library served from our own site that runs in your browser. Tracing runs at up to 1,000 px per side, and the SVG keeps the original size.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The tool runs inside your browser: files are read and processed on your device and are not sent to Cocuyo or to any third party. You can check it in your browser’s network tools: your file is not sent.
Is it really free?
Yes. You can try it before signing up; to download the result we ask for a free account, with no subscription. Your free account comes with 30 welcome uses; after that, each use costs 1 credit (top-ups from US$1), and they are unlimited with Basic or Pro. It never adds a watermark.
What are the limits?
JPG, PNG or WebP up to 30 MB and 40 megapixels per file, not animated. Files are processed one at a time so the tab stays responsive, even on a phone.
