Image to Base64: common questions
When is Base64 worth it?
For icons and small images you want inside HTML, CSS or an email. For large images it is not: the text is about 33% larger than the file.
How do I go from Base64 to an image?
Open “From Base64 to image”, paste the text (with or without “data:image/…;base64,”) and press “Show image” to view and download it.
Is there a limit?
Up to 5 MB per image so the page stays responsive; that is about 6.7 million characters.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The tool runs inside your browser: files are read and processed on your device and are not sent to Cocuyo or to any third party. You can check it in your browser’s network tools: your file is not sent.
Is it really free?
Yes. You can try it before signing up; to keep using it, we ask for a free account, with no subscription. It uses no credits and does not count toward your 30 welcome uses: it has no usage cap.
What are the limits?
JPG, PNG or WebP up to 30 MB and 40 megapixels per file, not animated. Files are processed one at a time so the tab stays responsive, even on a phone.
