Colour palette: common questions
How are the colours chosen?
Similar pixels are grouped (the “median cut” method) and each group’s average colour is taken. Transparent pixels do not count.
Why is a small colour missing?
Colours with very little presence merge with nearby ones. Raise the number of colours to see more nuances.
What is the CSS for?
It has each colour as a variable (--color-1, --color-2…) to paste into your stylesheet.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The tool runs inside your browser: files are read and processed on your device and are not sent to Cocuyo or to any third party. You can check it in your browser’s network tools: your file is not sent.
Is it really free?
Yes. You can try it before signing up; to keep using it, we ask for a free account, with no subscription. It uses no credits and does not count toward your 30 welcome uses: it has no usage cap.
What are the limits?
JPG, PNG or WebP up to 30 MB and 40 megapixels per file, not animated. Files are processed one at a time so the tab stays responsive, even on a phone.
