Choose MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 (recommended), SHA-384 or SHA-512. Up to 20 MiB: SHA uses Web Crypto and MD5 a calculation of its own on this page.
Compare and keep
Copy or download the hash in hexadecimal or paste the published hash to compare it. Use a fingerprint from a source you consider trustworthy.

Calculate hash (MD5, SHA-256): common questions
Does a hash encrypt a file or confirm its author?
No. It compares integrity; it neither hides content nor proves origin on its own.
Why can visibly similar texts produce different hashes?
Spaces, line endings and different Unicode forms produce different bytes. These differences are not normalized.
Does cancelling stop Web Crypto?
Cancel discards the result and prevents export. It cannot interrupt a browser digest already running. The complete file is read into memory, with a 20 MiB limit; it is not processed in chunks.
Are MD5 and SHA-1 suitable for security?
MD5 and SHA-1 are fine for checking downloads or finding duplicates, not for security.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser as you type; the text is not sent to Cocuyo or any third party and is not stored. You can check it in your browser’s network tools: your file is not sent.
Is it really free?
Yes. You can try it before signing up; to keep using it, we ask for a free account, with no subscription. It uses no credits and does not count toward your 30 welcome uses: it has no usage cap.
